Students Essays on Obesity
Essay 1
According to a 2004 report by the Institute of Medicine Committee on Prevention of Obesity in Children and Youth, over 9 million american kids over the age of 6 were considered obese. Here are some solutions I think would be effective in preventing obesity in children.
If obesity is to be overcome it requires committment from the parents and the children. Small steps can be taken such as changing their diet over time. Introduce healthy foods one at a time, instead of all at once. Make eating healthy fun for your kids. Let them help you make dinner.
Another way to help overcome childhood obesity is to engage your children in outdoor play. Go outside with them. Come up with fun activities that you can do together. One way to help with obesity in schools is taking away the unhealthy vending machines and replacing them with vending machnes with healthy foods.
Esssay 2
Childhood obesity is a growing epidemic in America. Many kids stay inside, eat junk foods and play video games or on the computer. Kids don't go outside and play anymore. It's not fun or there is nothing to do. There are many solutions to help stop the growing number of obese children.
Physical education is key. If a child is taght from an early age that exercise is fun, then they will be more likely to actually do it later on in their childhood. Encouraging kids to join sports is very important. If all their friends are playing that sport too, then of course they will want to participate also.
Parents play an important role in preventing childhood obesity. Most parents are too busy to take the time to make sure their child is eating the right foods. It is more convenient to grab fast food than to actually cook a healthy meal. If parents paid more attention to their child's well being, I believe obesity would decrease tremendously.
Essay 3
Childhood obesity is a huge problem in America. Children are gaining more and more weight with no one noticing or caring. The parents need to step up and help their children live healthier lives. Parents need to start cooking healthier meals. If the parents cook the meal and eat it with no problem, the children will most likely follow the example set by the parents. Parents need to stop relying on fast food to make dinner easier on them. I think physical activity needs to be encouraged more as well. The school may be doing their job but are the parents? Children need to understand the importance of physical activity at school and at home. If the parents exercise they should do it in front of their children so that they know this is a very important thing to do. Parents can also have family play time outdoors. Every night of the week the parents and their children can go outside and play with one another. They could play baseball or simply race each other.
I think if the parents set good examples then the kids will know exactly what to do. If no one ever teaches a kid that good diet and exercise is key to a healthy weight, then how will they know that this is key in staying healthy?
